A holiday destination adapted to families
Nendaz offers a wide choice of accommodation - chalets in particular – that meets the needs and the budgets of all guests, especially those with children. As shown by the "families welcome" label, Nendaz is a real paradise for families in summer and winter. There’s a Kid's Club and a day-care service, as well as different child-friendly activities, such as Tracouet - an excellent location for children and adult beginners to learn to ski in a fun and informative way. Considerable discounts are given on family ski passes.
In the heart of the “4 Vallées”
The Mont-Fort is the highest point of the “4 Vallées” and offers 412km of ski runs and 92 ski lifts, guaranteeing excellent snow conditions throughout the season. This vast domain caters for everyone: beginners, experienced skiers, families or off-piste enthusiasts, and meets the needs of free riders in search of freedom, unspoilt countryside and powder snow. Thanks to its exceptional panorama, the Mont-Fort is equally an excellent excursion for non-skiers.
Other activities to enjoy the snow
Each and everyone can discover the beauty of the snowy winter landscape at his own pace. An exclusive network of 100km of marked winter walks are at your disposal, and 5 snow-shoe tracks lead you into the heart of the forest. In Nendaz, après-ski is a must: a day spent in the fresh air can be rounded off by an evening spent in the warm and friendly atmosphere of one of the many pubs and discos.
Discover an exceptional 360° panoramic view of the Alps, from the Matterhorn to the Mont Blanc. The glacier is easily accessible as the cableway is open throughout the summer. One of the favourite activities is to walk to the top of the Mont-Fort (3,330m) to see the sunrise - a unique experience enriched by the vibrant sound of the alphorn. Another possibility is to climb the “Dent de Nendaz” (2,463m) perched directly above the resort and giving you incredible views of the Alps and the Rhone valley.
98km of hikes, along the 8 “bisses” - 6 of which have water in them.
The “bisses” are an important part of the history and culture of an entire civilisation. Dug into the ground, carved out of or suspended from the rock-face like scars, they symbolise the people of Nendaz’s fight to gain control of the water. The paths which follow the line of the “bisses” pass through a variety of interesting locations, and are not steep. They also offer some surprising panoramas of the valleys, villages and mountains. The “bisses” are accessible from May till the end of October and can be walked easily by children, parents and grand-parents alike.
The alphorn was adopted by our region many years ago and has close connection to Nendaz. This year Nendaz is organising the 5th International Alphorn Festival from the 21st to the 23rd of July: a Celtic evening, the official alphorn contest, a grand procession with over 200 animals and the “morceau d'ensemble”, will enchant you over this folkloristic weekend. Introductory courses teach you how to play the alphorn and there’s an alphorn-making workshop too. Come and make the most of these courses given by renowned teachers, and experience a once in a lifetime experience.
Both beginners and experienced bikers will find an excursion that suits their capacities along 150 km of mountain bike tracks, with the possibility of first riding to the summits by cableway. There are many different ways in which to enjoy mountain biking: for example the tour of the “Mont-Fort” in particular, where you can link up the resorts of Nendaz, Verbier and La Tzoumaz. 10 new tracks were officially approved in 2006 and a detailed map edited.
